This article explains how the Humidity Correction algorithm in Crop Controller functions. It describes how the system regulates greenhouse humidity by adjusting window positions to maintain optimal growing conditions.
Humidity Correction: A Two-Way Approach
Humidity correction Crop Controller applies humidity correction in two ways:
Humidity Saving
Closing the windows to retain moisture and prevent excessive dryness.
Setpoints: reduces max window position
Humidity Reduction
Opening the windows to discharge humid air and prevent excess moisture buildup.
Setpoints: increases min and or max window position
How the Algorithm Works
With ‘saving’ or ‘reduction’ switched on, Crop Controller prioritizes humidity over the air Temperature and corrects setpoints to steer towards the Humidity targets. These are the steps in sequence:
- Setting the targets. You set your humidity targets in the Crop Controller portal. (link to page…)
The humidity target is related to the air temperature. - Automatic monitoring. Crop Controller continuously monitors both the air temperature and the measured humidity.
- Correcting the setpoints. If the humidity level deviates from the target, Crop Controller applies a correction to the minimum and maximum window positions to regulate humidity.
Humidity Saving
Humidity saving aims to increase absolute humidity by limiting ventilation:
- The maximum window position is reduced, allowing more moisture to remain inside.
- The minimum window position remains unchanged, ensuring sufficient airflow.
Humidity Reduction
Humidity reduction works by increasing ventilation to lower humidity levels:
- The minimum and/ or maximum window positions are increased, depending on the situation. This allows excess moisture to escape.
These setpoint-changes are adjusted continuously by Crop Controller. The humidity correction is not fully visible for setpoints three days ahead, because the dynamic behavior of Temperature and Humidity often requires last-minute changes.
Summary
- With Humidity correction ‘on’, Crop Controller prioritizes humidity over temperature
- Crop Controller dynamically adjusts window positions to maintain optimal humidity levels.
- Humidity Saving retains moisture by reducing the maximum window position.
- Humidity Reduction releases excess moisture by increasing both window positions.
