This article explains the functionalities of the Temperature module, helping growers configure precise 24-hour temperature targets and daily profiles. Learn how Crop Controller adjusts setpoints based on crop phase and upcoming weather to maintain optimal growing conditions.

How does this functionality work?

The Temperature Optimization process follows these steps:

  • Crop Controller calculates the target 24-hour temperature based on the expected Total Radiation (shown in the 24h Totals card on the Control page).
  • Crop Controller generates an optimal temperature curve (displayed in the Climate Graph).
  • Ventilation and heating setpoints are determined, balancing humidity and temperature (shown in the bottom graph).

Temperature-Radiation balance

Crop Controller follows a built-in principle where greenhouse temperature follows daily radiation levels.
This Radiation-Temperature Ratio (RTR) ensures a balanced crop.
Both global radiation and artificial lighting contribute to calculating the target 24-hour temperature

How to set your temperature targets in the portal

To align temperature settings with your crop strategy

  1. Select the temperature icon in the sidebar.
  2. Adjust temperature response to radiation: Determine how much temperature should increase in response to radiation changes.
  3. Define min/max temperature range: Set the acceptable bandwidth for the 24-hour average temperature. The graph instantly updates to show the target 24-hour temperature based on total radiation.
  4. Adjust total radiation sum weights: Define how much yesterday’s radiation should influence today’s 24-hour temperature (total sum must equal 100%).

The following settings determine the temperature profile throughout the day:

  • Set the desired day/night temperature difference:
    • Min → Small difference between maximum and minimum temperature.
    • Max → Large difference between maximum and minimum temperature.
    • Balanced → Moderate difference.
  • (Optional) Set a fixed sunrise temperature: If desired, Crop Controller will ensure the greenhouse reaches a specific temperature at sunrise.
